Point camera at a flat barcode or QR code
Camera scanning tips
- Hold phone 6–12 inches away with the barcode filling most of the frame.
- Keep the barcode flat, clean, and well lit — no shadows.
- Avoid glare — rotate slightly to eliminate reflections.
- Try rotating the phone sideways for long 1D barcodes.
- On iPhone: switch to 1D Barcode mode for product/material labels.
- Thermal receipt barcodes (low contrast or wrinkled) — use manual entry instead.
Manual / Handheld Scanner Input
Type a code or connect a handheld scanner. Most handheld scanners type the code and press Enter automatically — no extra steps needed.
Best field workflow
- Use WSF QR labels when available — fastest and most reliable.
- Use a handheld scanner or manual input for stubborn 1D barcodes.
- Use camera scan for QR codes and clean product barcodes.
For iPhone 1D barcodes, choose 1D Barcode mode above. Receipts may still be unreliable — thermal receipt barcodes are often low-contrast or distorted. In those cases, manual entry is the right call.
